Just last week we shared our final stakeholder report of 2021 with our board, investors, and advisors, and I’m pleased to report that 2021 was a year of strategic wins for Brella. Yes, we grew revenue 12x versus the prior year, but much more importantly, we introduced our revolutionary supplemental health insurance plan to the industry, and put the team, platform, and partnerships in place to bring Brella to Americans nationwide in 2022.
I’m sharing the highlights of our year not only because I’m proud of the Brella team’s accomplishments, but also because I believe you have a role to play in our mission to build a world where health hardships don’t create financial burdens. Here are the most important milestones of our year and what I think they might mean for you in 2022.
1. Brella proved there’s a market for a new kind of supplemental health benefit.
Before Brella, traditional supplemental plans didn’t typically cover common conditions like kidney stones, hernias, and benign tumors—yet, conditions like these can run up medical bills that strain employees’ finances, even when they have health insurance. Our supplemental health insurance plan covers 13,000+ injuries and illnesses in one plan.
In addition to positive feedback from leading benefits consultants across the U.S., there are a couple of key metrics that stand out. While traditional supplemental plans are offered on a voluntary basis, more than half of our groups included an employer contribution to the premium, and one quarter paid the entire premium, signaling that Brella is a valuable part of the health benefits offering. Meanwhile, 60% of employees participate in the plan, whether enrolling through our platform, Brella Enroll, or on a benefits administration system.
What does this mean for you? If you haven’t yet learned about Brella, there’s still time to be an early mover in your market. Get in touch with our team, and we’d be happy to bring you up to speed.
2. We grew to 12 states with more coming in 2022.
The Brella plan is now available to groups sitused in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas, and Wisconsin. We expect to launch several more states in Q1 on our way to nationwide availability. If we’re not in your state yet, get in touch anyway or sign up for our newsletter. We’ll make sure you’re ready and you’ll be the first to know when we go live in your area.
3. Our inaugural sales team brings 112 years of collective experience.
This year we welcomed 6 regional sales and business development directors with 112 years of collective experience. We are honored to have attracted such accomplished talent and confident that when you engage with our team, you’re working with knowledgeable and responsive partners who understand the benefits landscape and needs of today’s employers and their employees. They’re looking forward to getting to know you.
4. Our platform now includes an interactive proposal, same-day implementation, and smarter billing.
We didn’t build an innovative insurance solution on old-school technology. Brella gave us the opportunity to bring simplicity to the entire customer journey.
Request a quote and we’ll send you an interactive proposal that saves you time by letting you model various plan designs with your employer client. Ready to go? We can set up your group’s plan same-day with DocuSigned contracts. And on the billing front, your employer clients can preview their invoice in advance to ensure accuracy or implement Brella with a direct pay option for their employees.
5. We inked several strategic partnerships that will roll out in 2022.
Together with other prominent insurance companies, we can bring Brella to more employees in 2022. We're excited about new partnerships with some of our industry's biggest names, and we'll be in touch when we have more to share.
I mentioned our mission because it’s the driver of everything we do at Brella, but it’s not something we can accomplish alone. The only way to build a world where health hardships don’t create financial burdens is to partner with a broad community who believe that benefits can work better than they do today.
We all have a part to play, and if we can help with yours, we want to do that. Also, we’d love to keep you posted on our progress this year through our monthly newsletter. Subscribe below so you’ll be the first to know what’s new, and if we can get help in any way, get in touch.
